God's Work Our Hands 2022


Every year, the Atonement community participates in a God's Work Our Hands through a series of volunteering opportunities!

This year, we are focusing our efforts on the following activities:
- Fall Workday for All Peoples Church's community garden in Milwaukee
- Food Pack to help world hunger, coming together to portion and pack dried goods for those in need.
- Habitat for Humanity's Restore retail store- spend an afternoon helping around the store.

These volunteer opportunities are not a big time commitment, and can have a huge impact on those within our community and around the world!

Food Pack 2022

Credit card, cash, and check will be accepted during in-person sales. Tickets will be available for purchase online starting on September 18–check back for the purchase form when the time comes.

Your support will go directly towards the purchase of supplies and dried goods for our Food Pack on October 16. Raffle drawing on Monday, October 17 at 12 p.m., you do not need to be present to win.

Food Pack event: October 16

Join us between worship services on Sunday, October 16 to help portion and pack dried goods to send to those in need of food. This is a great service opportunity for families, and each shift is no more than an hour (9-10 a.m., and 10:30-11:30 a.m.).

Children ages 5-7 need to be paired with an adult, and the nursery will be open for children younger than 5.

Fall Workday at All Peoples Church (APC)

Atonement’s helpers for All Peoples Church Fall Workday in 2021!

As part of GWOH, our Fall Workday at APC will be Saturday, October 1 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Please come join us to help work in the garden and beautify the area. No special talents are needed. It is a fun time and the reward is great. Bring gloves and a kneeling pad if you have them!

Meet at Atonement at 9:30 a.m. to carpool to APC, or meet at APC at 10 a.m.

Veterans Item Collection

In honor of Veterans Day on November 11, we will be collecting items from Saturday, October 1 through Sunday, November 6. Items collected will be donated to the Veterans at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. Please drop items off in the bins marked “Veterans” in Atonement’s lobby area. Monetary donations are also appreciated; please make checks out to Atonement Lutheran Church, earmarked for “CIS - VA collection” in the memo line (you can also give online here). The money will help purchase needed items for the VA. Items collected will be dropped off at the VA the following week!

Items Needed:

Comfort: patriotic/regular blankets, quilts, prayer shawls

Toiletry items for men and women:

Travel size: unscented hand lotion, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion

Full size: dove soap for sensitive skin, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, deodorant, sturdy combs, hair brushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, chapstick/lip balm, nail clippers, emery boards/nail files, disposable razors (men & women), shaving cream

Miscellaneous items: pocket calendars, umbrellas, hand warmers, small note pads, playing cards, current magazines (w/in 6 month), large print books, crossword books, gas only gift cards ($10-$20) for appointments, grocery gift cards, bus tickets (for appointments), reading glasses (various strengths), sugar-free gum and candy, mints, regular candy, granola bars

“NEW” Clothing ( men’s/women’s clothing, sizes M thru 4XL): Socks, underwear, hats, gloves, scarves, white dress shirts, long underwear, jeans, regular/hooded sweatshirts and sweatpants (no strings/ties), short and long sleeved shirts, t-shirts, patriotic t-shirts, shoes (all sizes), slippers (all sizes)

The veterans have always been in the hearts of people at our church, and in our community, since many have served valiantly in the military. Thank you for your willingness to help with this very worthwhile project.

Franklin Habitat Restore: October 22+29

Store Location: 6939 S. Riverwood Blvd, Franklin WI

Saturday Oct. 22, 11a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 29, 1-4 p.m.

Habitat welcomes volunteers to assist in their stores. As a volunteer you may cashier, unpack items, stock shelves, decorate or help stage furniture for sale. You do not need to have any experience in retail or donations, just the willingness to help.

Things to know before you volunteer:

You need to be 16 or older to volunteer as an individual.

Volunteers age 14-15 may volunteer with parental supervision or with chaperones from a group.

You will need to register online with Habitat, too. Further details below.

Bring a bag lunch If you will be working over lunch and bring a water bottle. You do not need to bring any equipment.

Closed toed tennis shoes or boots are required.

All volunteers should meet at the ReStore. There is a short orientation when you arrive.

Signing Up:

You need to register online with Habitat HERE. Enter join code when prompted: atonement (case-sensitive)

Please note that you will both “create an account” as a user (or sign in if you have used the system before) and “sign up” for the event.
