Mission of Healing 2022

The Mission of Healing will return in-person to El Salvador on February 12-19, 2022. This trip is sponsored in part by Atonement, as well as Unity Church in Brookfield.

The Mission of Healing provides basic health services to the people of El Salvador. Although we will visit communities as a clinic, the Christ-based relationships that are built are the true purpose. While we offer services from physicians, nurses, counselors, dietitians; there are many tasks that can be done by non-health care workers.


Application Process

Applications are due December 7. Please send completed applications to Muriel Otto: muriel@unitybrookfield.org

Travelers will be asked to submit copies of medical licenses, passports and health insurance cards before travel. For the safety of fellow travelers and host communities, all travelers need to be vaccinated against covid will need to show documentation for air travel. Applications will be securely held and will be shredded upon the conclusion of the delegation trip. No more than 24 applicants will be accepted.

 

Trip Details

Tentative Schedule:

  • Saturday:  Travel to El Salvador

  • Sunday:  Worship with sister communities (Atonement members will travel to Tepeagua)

  • Monday-Thursday: Travel and service work, including a medical clinic, within communities in need.

  • Friday: Evaluation and wrap-up with Salvadoran Lutheran Synod, and free time to visit the beach or explore the area.

  • Saturday:  Travel home

Skills Needed:

Anyone, regardless of medical knowledge, can apply. Non-medical folks willing to be worker bees, teach health topics, or play with kids are especially needed. No Spanish speaking necessary, though its a plus.

Cost:

The cost of the trip includes the plane ticket (usually around $700) plus $450 for hotel, food, transportation, covid tests (estimated cost for in-country expenses).

Covid-19 Safety Precautions/Requirements:

All travelers need to be vaccinated and will need to show vaccination cards at customs, both to enter El Salvador and again to enter the US. In addition, we’ll all need to have proof of negative tests before both travel days.
